Getting where you brush your child's teeth ready

Overview

Some children find the bathroom too overwhelming and struggle with brushing their teeth there. But don’t worry, brushing doesn’t have to happen in the bathroom!

Some parents have found success by brushing their child’s teeth while they’re watching TV or sitting down after breakfast. Others find it easier to brush their child’s teeth while they’re relaxed in the bath or even in the car.

How to make the bathroom more 'sensory friendly'

If you brush your child's teeth in the bathroom, you can use the guide below to think about different sensory experiences. We call this being a sensory detective, as it allows you to think about your environment and what may work for your child’s sensory preferences. You can use the same ideas for other areas where toothbrushing is done, such as the kitchen or car.
