How schools and nurseries can help

Overview

This section is designed to help parents work with schools or nurseries to help make steps towards their children’s eating and drinking habits, which also helps with teeth and gum care. While these tips are mainly for school or nursery, you can use many of them at home too.

Here’s what you’ll find in this section:

  • Practical tips for packing lunches - Learn from other parents about what their children bring to school or nursery, get a lunch packing checklist, and see examples of how children explore and play with food.

  • Creating a calm eating space - Tips on making mealtime peaceful, the best sitting postures for eating and drinking, and special considerations for autistic children.

  • Engaging with food and drinks - Ideas to help your child interact with different foods and drinks, including sensory preparation for exploring and playing. Learn about the importance of texture, sound, and smells in the eating experience.

Think about which of these areas might work best for your child and feel free to share these ideas with their school or nursery.
